Miners End Season at Summer Sizzle
by posted 07/22/2008

U15 MINERS COMPLETE A GREAT SEASON OF LACROSSE

U15 Swift Creek Miners completed their season the weekend of July 19th at Summer Sizzle in Baltimore, MD.  Summer Sizzle is one of the premier lacrosse tournaments on the East Coast.

The Miners competed against very tough teams from Long Island, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia.  The team endured through extreme heat to end the weekend with 4 wins and 1 loss (losing by just one goal in a hard fought game).

After a great spring/ tournament season the Miners exhibited great teamwork at Summer Sizzle.  All their hard work and conditioning really paid off.

Thanks to all the coaches/players/parents for their dedication to the team.

We look forward to tryouts this fall for our Spring/Summer 2009 U15 and JV Miners teams.

Go Miners!

Coaches Registration for Fall Lacrosse is Now Open
by posted 06/16/2008

The fall season games begin the weekend of September 13th and ends the weekend of October 25th.  Practices begin late August/early September.   Please register online if you are interested in being a head coach or an assistant coach.  We depend on our volunteers to make our program a success.  The only necessary qualification is a desire to teach our youth.  Remember the only way to guarantee your practice days/times is to volunteer as a coach.

Head coaches for U11 thru U19 divisions for the fall 2008 season will receive a registration voucher at the end of the fall 2008 season for one dependent's registration fee to be used during the spring or fall 2009 season.    One assistant coach per team is allowed 1/2 a registration voucher for spring or fall 2009.  The assistant coach voucher will cover 1/2 the registration fee for the spring or fall 2009 season.  The voucher is non-transferable and expires after the fall 2009 season.  It cannot be used for the Miners select program.

 Lacrosse Helmet Return Policy
by posted 04/28/2008

Mandatory Helmet Return for Spring 2008
All Swift Creek lacrosse helmets that have been loaned to recreational players must be returned at the end of the spring 2008 lacrosse season.  The last day to return your helmet is  6/6/2008.

It is the player’s responsibility to ensure they have returned their helmet by this date.  Individual e-mails are not sent out by the club to players that have not returned their helmet.  Deposit checks will be cashed after this date if you have not returned your helmet.
If you are playing in our Indoor Summer Session at RISE you will need to come in and complete a new Helmet Agreement Form in order to keep the helmet for the upcoming indoor season.

If you need to borrow a helmet for a summer camp not sponsored by Swift Creek you will need to complete the helmet agreement form and leave a $150 deposit check.  A $25 rental fee will also be charged.
Due to so many helmets not being returned in a timely manner this policy has become necessary so we can keep our helmet inventory up to date.
Thank you for your cooperation.

CYLA Announces Miners Select
Boys High School JV Team and U15 Team

For Spring/Summer 2009

Swift Creek Lacrosse is pleased to announce that we will be adding a High School JV team to our Miners Select Lacrosse program for 2009. The JV tryout will be open to all central Virginia players in the 9th and 10th grade for the 2008/2009 school year.   Coach Rodney Braziel and Coach Jim Gentry will coach the JV team next spring. They both have coached in our Miners program for several seasons and are presently coaching our U15 Miners team with great success.
Our U15 Miners team will be offered again next spring. The U15 team tryout will be open to all central Virginia players born in 1994 or 1995.   Coach Tom Manson and Coach Sean Manson will coach the U15 Miners next spring/summer. The father/son duo joined Swift Creek this spring, coaching a U13 recreational team. We are thrilled they are coaching our U15 Miners team next spring/summer and they bring a wealth of coaching and lacrosse knowledge to our club.   Tom started coaching Sean’s teams when Sean was just three years old and coached his teams up to his high school lacrosse years.  Sean attended Edgewood High School in Edgewood, Maryland (a very competitive lacrosse area).
Just a few of Sean’s highlights during his playing years:
- played attack for 8 years
- played goalie for 8 years
- 1st Team All County -senior year
- Selected for the Maryland All Star Team- senior year
 - Moved up to Varsity- sophomore year
- High School team won State Championship-sophomore year
- 3rd Team All County -junior Year
- High School team State Finalist-junior Year
- Played at Harford Community College for 1 ½ years

Tryouts will be in early fall 2008 for both the U15 team and the JV team.

The Miners program will include the Spring 2009 season and tournaments in Summer 2009.

More detailed information about the Spring 2008/2009 Miners program will be posted soon.

 SCLAX SPRING/FALL 2008 PROGRAM INFORMATION
by posted 10/22/2007

SCLAX Spring/FALL 2008 Program Information:

The SCLax program was started in the Fall of 2003 and is open to both boys and girls. We follow the rules of play as governed by the NATIONAL FEDERATION OF STATE HIGH SCHOOL ASSOCIATIONS, with the exception of the U09 and U11 programs. In the last 5 years the program has grown from 300 to over 500 boys and girls ranging in ages from 5-18 playing on Recreational and Select teams throughout the state of Virginia. The success of the lacrosse program is the result of many dedicated volunteers.   Interest and enthusiasm are the only requirements for playing.

Spring/Fall 2008 teams will consist of 18-20 players. Practices are held 2-3 times a week at the beginning of the season and less when games begin. Practice times range from one to two hours depending on level of play.  Practice times and locations are at the volunteer coaches discretion.  The only way to guarantee your child a particular practice schedule is to volunteer as a coach for that team.

AGE RANGES FOR THE SPRING/FALL 2008  SEASON:

U07/U09 SPARKS LACROSSE - BIRTHDATE RANGE 1/1/1999-12/31/2002

Coaches are on the field during games and act as referees and help keep the players organized. Games are usually played at the Clover Hill Athletic Complex off Genito Road in Chesterfield County. ($50.00)

U11 LIGHTNING (Boys/Girls):

The emphasis at the Lightning Program will still be on skills and instruction but players will be assigned to a team with a coach. Teams will be of equal talent and games will be played with normal rules with the exception of man up and man down situations. U13 FLAMES (Boys/Girls):

The Flames program puts an emphasis on basic skills. Many beginners start playing lacrosse at this level. All aspects of the game are played at this level, with the introduction of man up and man down play. Games are played on a full size field with a goalie and are primarily played on the week-ends; however, some games may be scheduled during the week as needed. The Flames program will use various fields in Chesterfield County and some games may be scheduled at locations outside the Richmond Area. U15  (Boys/Girls):

This program will use various fields in Chesterfield County and some games may be scheduled at locations outside the Richmond Area.
